How the global salary and recipe calculator works

Currency conversion answers how much money changes hands at a market exchange rate. Purchasing power parity (PPP) asks a different question: how much local spending power is represented by an income in another country? BFOTKit uses the latest available World Bank GDP purchasing-power-parity conversion factors to create a country-level salary comparison. Choose the country where the salary is earned, enter a monthly or annual amount, then select another country to see an approximate local-currency equivalent. The result is a broad national comparison, not a promise that the same lifestyle costs the same in two cities. Housing, taxes, family size, and personal spending can change the real comparison.

Salary comparisons use country-level PPP data

The PPP view divides the entered salary by the source country’s PPP factor and multiplies it by the destination country’s factor. The World Bank’s indicator is expressed as local currency units per international dollar. The site requests the latest observations from the public API and falls back to its saved reference values if the service is unavailable. Newer data may appear later than the calendar year shown in the title, so the tool displays the observation year it actually uses. PPP is not a current currency exchange quote and cannot provide reliable city-specific comparisons such as San Francisco versus Nagpur.

Scale ingredients for a different number of portions

Enter the recipe’s current servings and how many people you want to serve. Paste one ingredient per line, such as “2 cups flour” or “150 g butter.” The scaler multiplies each recognized quantity by the servings ratio. With Metric selected, familiar volume units can convert to grams when the ingredient is recognized. With Imperial selected, supported weights and volumes convert to common US kitchen units. Since a cup of flour and a cup of honey weigh different amounts, density-based conversions are approximate and unknown ingredients keep their original unit.

Understand what the tax estimate includes

The estimate applies a simplified individual income-tax calculation for one common filing situation in each selected country. It does not calculate a guaranteed take-home paycheck. US results cover federal tax for a single filer using a standard deduction; Canada covers federal tax only and excludes provincial or territorial income tax. India uses the default new-regime slab structure for AY 2026–27 with a simplified salary deduction and rebate treatment. France assumes one tax part and uses the current published progressive scale. Poland uses the general PIT scale. Social insurance, payroll contributions, local taxes, credits, special deductions, and household circumstances are not fully modeled. Use the official tax references below for a full calculation.

Convert common kitchen measurements

Use the unit tab for quick conversions between cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, milliliters, liters, grams, kilograms, ounces, and pounds. Weight-to-volume conversions require a known ingredient density; the tool uses a small reference list for common ingredients and shows a note whenever a result depends on an approximation. These kitchen estimates help with planning and batch cooking, but a scale is more reliable for baking or commercial recipes. All calculations run in your browser. Salary values and ingredient lists are not uploaded.

FAQ

What is purchasing power parity (PPP)?

Open BFOTKit and use the Salary parity tab to compare country-level buying power. PPP compares relative prices using a World Bank GDP factor; it is not a live exchange quote or a city cost-of-living comparison.

Why is PPP different from a currency exchange rate?

Open BFOTKit and choose Salary parity to see both countries side by side. An exchange rate compares currencies in financial markets; PPP adjusts for national price levels, so the two figures answer different questions.

How do I scale a recipe for 50 people?

Open BFOTKit and select Recipe scaler. Enter the original servings, set the target to 50, and paste ingredients one per line. The tool scales recognized quantities and converts supported units; review approximate cup-to-gram results.

Does a cup always equal the same number of grams?

Open BFOTKit and select Recipe scaler to convert supported ingredients. A cup measures volume while grams measure weight, so flour, sugar, and honey have different conversions. The tool uses approximate densities for common ingredients and keeps unknown ingredients in volume units.

Are the salary and tax results exact?

Open BFOTKit and use Salary parity or Tax estimate for a quick comparison. PPP is national and uses the latest available World Bank observation; tax is simplified and omits personal circumstances and some taxes or deductions. Check the linked official references before financial decisions.
