Convert CSV to Excel without changing your data
Need to open a CSV in Excel but the columns appear together, product codes lose their zeros, or long IDs turn into scientific notation? BFOTKit’s CSV to Excel tool turns a delimited text file into an XLSX workbook you can review and download. It reads the file in your browser, previews the rows, and keeps every imported field as text. That makes it useful for customer IDs, postal codes, invoice references, phone numbers, and other values that should remain exactly as written.
How to convert CSV to Excel online
To convert a .csv to Excel, choose a .csv, .tsv, or delimited .txt file. The CSV importer checks the text encoding and looks for a comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe separator. Review the sample table before you export CSV to Excel. If the data is split incorrectly, choose the delimiter yourself. You can also switch the encoding when accented characters look wrong. Select whether the first row appears as column headings in the preview, then click Download Excel to save a new .xlsx file. Your original CSV remains untouched.
Preserve leading zeros and long numbers
Opening a CSV directly in Excel can cause automatic formatting. A code such as 000472 may become 472, a long identifier may be rounded, and a date-like value may be interpreted as a calendar date. This converter writes all cells as text in the resulting workbook. When you import CSV to Excel with BFOTKit, the visible characters in each field are preserved, including leading zeros. If you later need to sum prices or calculate with quantities, convert only those selected columns to numbers in Excel after checking the data.
Fix a CSV that opens in one column
CSV stands for comma-separated values, but many exports use semicolons or tabs instead. Regional settings can make Excel expect a different separator from the one in your file. The preview shows how the chosen delimiter divides rows into columns, along with a row and column count. Try another option when the preview has one wide column or fields are split in the wrong places. The parser also handles quoted fields, doubled quotation marks, and line breaks within quoted values, so a comma inside a quoted address does not create an extra column.
Text encoding and character problems
Text files can use UTF-8, UTF-16, or Windows-1252 encoding. If a CSV shows unusual symbols in names or descriptions, choose the correct encoding and check the preview again. Auto detect recognizes common Unicode byte marks and falls back when the file is not valid UTF-8. This is useful when you transform CSV to Excel from older desktop exports, reports, or systems that did not create UTF-8 files. The downloaded XLSX stores the resulting text in a standard Excel workbook.
Using CSV data in other import workflows
People looking for an “ultimate CSV importer” may also need database mapping, validation rules, or scheduled uploads. BFOTKit focuses on a narrower step: making a CSV readable and stable in Excel. If you are comparing the fastest SaaS CSV importer for bulk uploads, you can use this page to inspect a file before sending data to that service. The tool itself does not upload rows to a SaaS account. Likewise, a CSV importer for WooCommerce normally expects a CSV file with specific product columns. This page creates XLSX for review; it does not import products into WooCommerce or replace its product importer.
File limits, privacy, and the final check
You can convert CSV to Excel from files up to 25 MB, with up to 200,000 rows and 200 columns. Large workbooks may need substantial browser memory. The file is processed on your device and is not uploaded to BFOTKit. Before using the workbook, check a few rows against the source, especially columns with identifiers, dates, and accented characters. If a row has fewer fields than the widest row, the preview reports that mismatch so you can investigate the source file before sharing the result.
