02

Measure the test square

Enter its intended dimensions, then drag around its edges in the page preview.

03

Print at the corrected size

Sewing pattern PDF scale FAQs

How do I check the scale of a sewing pattern PDF?

Open the PDF, go to the printed test square, enter its intended width and height, then drag a box around the square in the preview. The checker compares the measured PDF dimensions with the intended size and calculates a print percentage.

What print percentage should I use for my sewing pattern?

Use the percentage shown after measuring the test square. For example, if a 10 cm square measures 9.5 cm in the PDF, print at about 105.3% to bring it to 10 cm. Select Actual size or 100% if you download a corrected PDF.

Can this tool correct my sewing pattern PDF?

Yes. It can create a corrected copy by scaling the PDF artwork to match the test square you measured. Page dimensions stay the same, so scaling up can bring artwork closer to page edges. Check the pattern after printing.

Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and processed in your browser. It is not uploaded to BFOTKit.

What should I choose in the print dialog?

If you use the calculated percentage, enter it in Custom Scale. If you download a corrected copy, print it at Actual size or 100% and turn off Fit, Shrink oversized pages, and other automatic scaling options.

Why can the test square look correct but print incorrectly?

A printer or PDF viewer may scale pages to fit the paper, or the printer driver may use a different page size. Measure the square on the printed page with a physical ruler and use the same paper size and print settings for the pattern.
